Eskymos Turn Back Iron Mtn In Baseball Debut 9-2
IRON MOUNTAIN---The Escanaba High School baseball team jumped to a big early lead and rolled to a 9-2 win over the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Monday night at Iron Mountain's Ranger Field. It was the first game in Mountaineer baseball history. Escanaba senior Parker LaMarch got the start on the mound, and he was on his game, throwing 3 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. He struck out six batters and walked three. Craig Kamin followed LaMarch to the hill, and he pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. With an 8-0 lead late in the game, Eskymo Manager Kirk Schwalbach brought in freshman Grant LaMarche, who had pitched well in his debut last week in Wisconsin Dells. This time, he struggled, walking five batters and allowing two runs. Schwalbach eventually brought in Justin Popelka to get the final out. On offense, the Eskymos had seven base hits, with Popelka and C.J. Barron each getting two hits. Popelka had two runs batted in. Escanaba (4-2) hosts Gladstone on Tuesday, and Marquette on Wednesday.
