Quick Start Helps Ishpeming Girls Top Braves 57-41
GLADSTONE---The Ishpeming Hematites jumped to a 17-5 lead and cruised to a 57-41 girls basketball victory over the Gladstone Braves in a make-up game Monday night. Khora Swanson scored 17 of her game-high 24 points in the first half as Ishpeming led the game from start to finish. The Braves closed to within five points in the second quarter after going on an 8-0 scoring spurt, but could never get any closer. Gladstone senior Leigha Woelffer scored 20 points in her next-to-last game on her home floor. She struggled at the free throw line, however, making just four of 11 charity shots. Mariah Austin scored 13 points and Marissa Maino added eight for Ishpeming. The Hematites also won the junior varsity game, 46-25. Gladstone (5-12) will host Kingsford on Braves Senior Night Tuesday evening. The game will start at 7:15 ET and will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600) and rrnsports.com.
