MARQUETTE---
Michigan Tech used a strong second half to dispatch the Northern Michigan men's basketball team, 76-62, Monday night at the Berry Events Center.

Kyle Monroe paced the Huskies, posting a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds. No other Husky scored more than 12 points.

In the first half, the Wildcats took a 12-8 lead at the 14:33 mark after Jordan Perez drove the lane and dished the ball to Marcus Matelski in the corner for a three-point shot.

But Monroe scored three straight baskets to give Michigan Tech a 14-12 advantage. While a Sam Taylor three-point shot and a Matelski layup put the Wildcats back up by three with 11:56 left in the half, Monroe made a jump shot and then a three-point shot to give the Huskies a 19-17 advantage at the 10:37 mark.

From that point on, the teams traded baskets and were locked in a tie five times. Michigan Tech took a 39-35 edge into the intermission after closing out the half on a 7-2 run.

By the 16:34 mark of the second half, the Huskies had built a 10-point lead, at 51-41. An A.J. Grazulis layup put them up, 60-46, with 11:33 left to play. That was their largest lead of the game, and it proved insurmountable.

Taylor led the Wildcats in points, tying his career high with 16. Rod Johnson chipped in a career-best 14 points while Echols (11), Matelski (11) and Perez (11) also scored in the double digits.

Echols dished out a team-best six assists while Perez hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.

Northern Michigan shot 40.4 percent from the floor, 32.3 from three and 87.5 from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats, now 6-13 (4-10 GLIAC), next hit the road to take on Lake Superior State on Thursday and Northwood on Saturday.
