DETROIT — Michigan Tech outscored Wayne State 28-12 in the third quarter to take control of an eventual 71-65 victory at the Matthaei Center today in GLIAC women's basketball.

The Huskies improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in GLIAC play while the Warriors fell to 5-3 and 1-3 respectively.

Tech made just 5-of-18 3-pointers in the first half and doubled that output with five more in the third period as part of a 28-point quarter.

Danielle Blake scored her 1,000th career point with a reverse layup in the first quarter of play. She finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six steals.

"Our first half wasn't what we wanted once again, but I'm proud of how we responded in the second," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "We need to play with the intensity we showed in the second-half for the whole game. It's a learning process, and I think we got better today."

Tech turned the ball over 11 times in the opening 20 minutes and trailed 39-29 at halftime. The Black and Gold responded with 12 points in the first 3:30 of the third quarter to pull within four.

Kylie Moxley's jumper with three minutes left in the frame put the Huskies on top. Back-to-back triples from Lindsay Winter and Kerry Gardner made the margin 57-50.

Wayne State climbed back within a point as the Huskies were stuck on 60 for three minutes in the fourth quarter.

Morgan Anderson jumper and another Winter trey pushed the gap to six, and the visitors were able to hold off the Warriors from there.

Four Huskies scored 14 points or more. Winter and Garnder tied for team-high honors with 15 apiece. Anderson matched Blake's 14 points. The Huskies' fifth starter, Moxley, notched a game-high 12 rebounds with eight points.

Michigan Tech will next play an exhibition game vs. Finlandia on Saturday (Dec. 19). Game time at the SDC Gym is set for 7 p.m.
