JV Flivvers Pull Away In 2nd Half To Top JV Braves
GLADSTONE---The Kingsford High School junior varsity football team scored three touchdowns late in the second half to break open a close game, and beat the Gladstone JV Braves, 39-12, Thursday night at the Marble Athletic Field. Gladstone's special teams were good, giving the Braves excellent field position throughout most of the game after several long kick returns. But Gladstone could not take advantage of that field position, with several possessions inside the 15 yard-line either ending in field goals, or turned over on downs. A key sequense happened late in the second quarter when the Braves were knocking on the door, trailing, 10-6. But they had to settle for an Adam Bruce field goal. On the last play of the half, the Flivvers needed a big pass....and they got it, as Chase Kreski jumped high into the air and made a touchdown reception with 0.6 seconds left. Instead of a 10-9 game at halftime, it was 17-9, and Kingsford had the momentum. But the next three plays went backwards, and Gladstone had to settle for another field goal, making it 17-12. From there, it was all Kingsford, with 22 straight Flivver points in the final 13 minutes. Besides Bruce's two field goals, Owen Hanson had a first quarter touchdown for the JV Braves, who fall to 6-2. The Braves close the junior varsity football season next Friday in Calumet.
