Eight Gladstone Wrestlers Qualify For D3 Regionals
GRAYLING---Eight Gladstone High School wrestlers have advanced to next week's individual regional tournament after qualifying during Saturday's MHSAA Division Three district tournament in Grayling. Gladstone senior Jeremy Kadish was the Braves' lone district champion, beating Grayling's Nick Petrie on a major decision, 13-2, in the 171-pound championhip match. Kadish is now 31-3 on the season, and will be the top seed at next week's regional. The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for regionals. In the 215-pound weight class, Gladstone's Jack Cronick made the finals, before being pinned by Benzie Central's Devlin Philo in 5:20. Bruce, Beauchamp and Cronick all take second place and will advance to the regionals. Gladstone heavyweight Zach Bailey finished third, sophomore Austin Demeuse finished fourth at 160 pounds, and freshman Diego Mileski was fourth at 119 pounds. And Alex Chouinard finished fourth in the 140 pound weight class to qualify. Kingsford will send two wrestlers to next week's regionals. At 152 pounds, Seth Collins won the championship, beating Boyne City's Carter Wilmot on a pin two minutes into the championship match. Flivver junior Zack Jones made the final at 103 pounds, before losing to Roscommon's Brenden Spencer on a 7-5 decision. Menominee will also send two wrestlers to the regionals: Ian Brown, who finished third at 130 pounds, and Taylor Smith, who finished fourth at 135 pounds. Gladstone will travel to the Division Three Team Regionals on Wednesday in Grayling, and will face Roscommon in the semifinals. Then the eight Gladstone boys, along with the two wrestlers from Menominee and Kingsford, will go back to Grayling for a third time next Saturday for the Division Three Individual Regionals. |
