The Michigan High School Athletic Association individual regional wrestling tournaments were held on Saturday across the state, and guys from across the Upper Peninsula had to head downstate early because the Mackinac Bridge was closed due to falling ice for seven hours on Thursday, and it was closed again for several hours on Saturday.
The extra travel expense was worth it as the UP wrestlers performed well and punched their tickets to the state finals at Detroit's Ford Field.
The girls individual regionals will be held on Sunday, with even more opportunities for 28 Upper Peninsula wrestlers to qualify for state's. Six of them won regional championships.
The Division Three Region 9 tournament was held on Saturday in Boyne City. The top four finishers in every weight class qualified for Ford Field. The nine U.P. Qualifiers are:
