A ceremony was held Tuesday night to celebrate the brand new bleachers at the Escanaba football stadium.

The Eskymo Fan Club spearheaded the $450,000 project, which stripped out all of the old wooden seats and replaced them with new metal seats. They also put in 156 “stadium seats”.

"All the seating itself was a little over $400,000, so it's about a half-million dollar project all together," Eskymo Fan Club President Linda Beauchamp told RRN Sports. "I first asked the question about this (renovation) three years ago, in October. We've got a little over $60,000 left to fundraise for and then we will be done."

Supporters were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony along with the entire Escanaba High School football team.

"The community support, the Eskymo support, has been unbelievable," Beauchamp said. "I would never have thought we would be able to complete this project in the amount of time that we did. It's amazing. I mean, from literally across the country, people have been donating, and supporting this project."

Beauchamp says the Upper Peninsula State Bank is helping to cover the remaining cost with a loan. Longtime Bank President/CEO Dan Williams and Senior Vice President Eric Lundin were both on hand for Tuesday night's event.
