GLADSTONE---Senior running back Owen Gereau scored four touchdowns and Trevor Thorbahn scored twice as the Gladstone High School football team cruised past the Hancock Bulldogs, 57-8, on Braves Homecoming Friday night at the Marble Athletic Field.
Gereau scored on runs of 68, 19, and 16 yards on the ground, and added a 60-yard kickoff return for a four-touchdown night after he missed most of last seasson with injries.
Homecoming King Luke Ingrham, who's girlfriend Natalie was also named Homecoming Queen, kicked seven extra point conversions to help the Braves get their first win of the season.
Thorbahn scored two touchdowns, one on a reception and one on a running play, and senior Jack Savard had two sacks and recovered a fumble for a safety on defense. Junior quarterback Cooper Sanville had a touchdown pass and a 60-yard touchdown run.
Hancock's Drew Sturos ran hard all night, most of the time with little blocking as the Gladstone defense bullrushed the Hancock linemen. Sturos scored Hancock's only touchdown late in the third quarter on a 44-yard run. By that time, however, the Bulldogs, who has just 19 players and many of them underclassmen, were behind, 50-0.
Gladstone improved to 1-3 on the season while Hancock fell to 0-4. The Braves, after three straight home games, will play in West Ishpeming next Friday night against the Westwood Patriots. The Bulldogs (0-4) will take on the Negaunee Miners.
