ESCANABA---The Menominee High School girls basketball team raced to a 28-point lead and held off the Escanaba Eskymos, 52-40, Wednesday night in Escanaba.
Kennedy Olson led all scorers with 21 points for the Maroons.
The Maroons broke open a close 11-9 game by racing to a 33-20 halftime lead, with Olson and Anna Nerat both scoring 12 points. Menominee them started the third quarter by scoring 15 straight points, expanding the lead to 48-20 late in the quarter.
Escanaba made a game of it down the stretch by scoring 14 straight points as part of a 20-4 run, but could get the deficit back into single digits.
Keira Maki, playing on a bum knee atter being injured last week in Gladstone, led the Eskymos with 17 points. Menominee improved to 13-6 on the season. Escanaba fell to 10-8.
