ESCANABA---
The Bark River-Harris Broncos wrestling team eeked out a 45-36 win over the Marinette Marines in a dual meet Wednesday night in Escanaba. It was part of a triangular with the host Eskymos.

The Broncos, a co-op with North Central, showed up with a depleted lineup. For one, two of their top wrestlers in the middle weights, brothers Wyatt and Dylan Raab, are both out with shoulder injuries. Then two more brothers, Noah and Kaleb Gagne, both transferred to Escanaba at the semester break (they are not eligible to wrestle for the Eskymos).

“All in all, I think we wrestled really well tonight,” BR-H Coach Joe Racicot said. “We have some things to build on. A lot of the younger wrestlers who don’t get varsity chances got some chances tonight and they proved themselves to be worthy to be on the mat.”

Marinette was also shorthanded, forfeiting nearly all of the lower weight classes.

But the Marines have a pair of brothers, Isaiah and Josh Walker, who have some good moves. Josh Walker pinned Ethan Siedlecki in a 145-pound match in 2:32, and Isaiah Walker pinned Ethan Messersmith in a 140-pound match (1:11).

The Marines got a pin in the 103-pound match from Grace Holgvin, who beat Paul Smith in 1:03 after Smith scored some early points.

The Marines’ top wrestler, 152-pounder Jonny Bieber, was in a 0-0 battle with David Mosse in the second period before he turned Mosse and got the pin.

Still, with all of the Marinette forfeits, it was a 30-30 tie heading into the 171-pound match. Bark River’s Jake Wandahsega grinded out a 10-8 decision over Katelyn Lewis for three important points.

Then Drew Allgeyer came through with his typical pin, taking 2:37 before racking up a 17-4 lead and getting the fall on his final move over Marinette’s Jaxon Smith at 189 pounds. Those six points made it 39-30 and essentially won the match.

The teams exchanged forefeit wins in the 215 and 285 weight classes, making it a 45-36 BR-H win.
