NEGAUNEE---The Escanaba Eskymos won their first MHSAA Division One boys tennis championship in 14 years on Wednesday. They waited out two very long rain delays to end Negaunee's multi-year reign.
Escanaba finished with 19 points and Negaunee had 13.
Nate Howes won the U.P. title at #3 singles, and the Eskymos won the #1 (Ryan Moreau and Viktor Pospisil), #2 (Isaac Maki and Dawson Williams) and #3 doubles (Jordan Nance and Tanner McDonald) flights.
Negaunee's Will Luke finished a perfect season with the #1 singles title, and the Miners' Luke Syrjala won the #2 singles title. Menominee finished third with ten points as Danny Birch won the #4 singles title in a marathon match over Escanaba's Connor Smale.
Marquette was fourth with five points, followed by Gladstone (two points) and Kingsford (one point).
