Michigan High School Softball Has Awards Evening

EAST LANSING---The Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association had its Hall of Fame banquet Friday night at the Causeway Bay Hotel in East Lansing.

The longtime coach of Maple City Glen Lake in northern lower Michigan, Gary Galla (pictured above), was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The Sault Ste. Marie High School softball team got the state's "Downing'Falvso" Community Service award.

Blue Devil Coach Linda Bouvet (pictured below) was on hand to accept the award.

RRN's Jack Hall was given the statewide "Friend of Softball" award for 2018, after 23 years of broadcasting softball and other sports in Delta County. Rapid River High School softball coach George Kanyuh (pictured left) gave the nominating speech, and played clips from past radio softball broadcasts.

Coaches with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service were honored, as were coaches who reached various victory milestones in 2017.

The coaches attended clinics throughout the day on Friday, and they will attend another half day of training Saturday morning before heading home.

They also gathered to do pre-season rankings for the 2018 season. In Division Two, the Escanaba Eskymos were ranked #3. In Division Three, the Gladstone Braves were ranked #2. And in Division Four, the Rapid River Rockets were honorable mention.
