Brandt, Bruce, Mills Win U.P. Track Championships

KINGSFORD---Marquette swept the MHSAA Division One Upper Peninsula track and field titles on Saturday in Kingsford, but Escanaba's Jeny Brandt, and Gladstone's Sydney Mills and the Braves' Adam Bruce took home individual first place honors.

Marquette's girls won with 118 points. Negaunee was second with 91. The Escanaba Eskymos finished fifth (53) and the Gladstone Braves were ninth (18).

Escanaba's Brandt capped a great three-sport Eskymo career with a U.P. championship in the discus, with a top throw of 123 feet, 6 inches.

Brandt was runner-up in the shot put, with a top throw of 32 feet, 3 inches.

Gladstone's Mills won a U.P. championship in the long jump (15 feet, 10.5 inches), and she was runner-up in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).

Escanaba's Katie Lord took third in the pole vault (8 feet-flat), and her teammate Courtney Boyle took third place in the 300 hurdles (49.81 seconds).

Marquette's boys won with 128 points. Iron Mountain was second with 78.5 points. The Gladstone Braves finished eighth (30) and Escanaba Eskymos placed ninth (18.5).

Gladstone's Bruce won the U.P. title in the 3200 run (10 minutes, 20.53 seconds).

Escanaba's Hunter Royer was runner-up in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches).

Gladstone's Jared Demeuse was third in the discus with a top throw of 117'5".
