Upper Peninsula Teams Play In State Quarterfinals

Two Upper Peninsula high school baseball and two U.P. softball teams will compete in the MHSAA state quarterfinals on Tuesday in Lower Michigan.

In softball, the Esanaba Eskymos have a tough challenge in the Division Two quarterfinal at Saginaw Valley State University. The Eskymos, ranked third in the state, will play the top-ranked team in Michigan, Saginaw Swan Valley. It's the third meeting between the teams in the past five years, with Swan Valley winning the previous two games.

The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com, starting with the pre-game show at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.

In baseball, the Gladstone Braves will try to earn a third straight trip to the state semifinals at Michigan State University when they play Mason County Central in the Division Three quarterfinal at Traverse City St. Francis High School. The game will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (107.3) and on-line at www.wcmmradio.com, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Also in baseball, Norway faces Gaylord St. Mary in a Division Four quarterfinal at Traverse City St. Francis at 4:00 ET/3:00 CT. And in softball, the Gladstone Braves will face Manistee in the Division Three quarterfinal at Traverse City St. Francis. Game time is 12:00 noon.
