Gladstone Girls Take Four Of Five Weekend Games

TAWAS---The Gladstone High School softball team had a busy weekend, playing a doubleheader on Friday in Sault Ste. Marie, and then competing in a tournament on Saturday in downstate Tawas.

The Braves swept the Blue Devils in a wild doubleheader in the Sault, winning by scores of 22-6 and 18-8. Then, it was a trip down Interstate 75 to compete in the Tawas event.

In the first game Saturday, the Braves blanked Lincoln-Alcona, 7-0, with Maddie Kowalski throwing the shutout in the circle. Next, Gladstone had a rough inning on defense and lost to St. Louis, 6-1, with Jenna Steinhoff taking the pitching loss.

Then, in the third game of the day, the Braves beat Boyne City, 11-2, with Lexi Winling getting the pitching win. Sam Sailer and Morgan Kowalski hit back-to-back home runs.

Gladstone (19-14) returns home to host Escanaba on Tuesday in a rematch from last week's Eskymo routs. The doubleheader starts at 4:00 at the Gladstone High School, and both games will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
