Eskymo Girls Win Three Of Four At Wintry Tourney

ESCANABA---It started off with a stunning upset, but ended with three more victories for the Escanaba High School girls softball team Saturday at Lemmerand Park.

Coach Jamie Segorski's team lost to the Rapid River Rockets, 6-1, in Saturday's first game at the Eskymo Softball Challenge.

It was a major upset for the Eskymos, who had mercied the Rockets earlier this month and were ranked No. 3 in the state in Division Two. But Escanaba quickly responded with more fire, and rolled to routs over three opponents. The Eskymos beat Sault Ste. Marie, 16-1; Neenah (Wis.), 13-4, and Gladstone, 10-0.

Those wins followed Escanaba's 9-1 win over Marshfield (Wis.) Friday evening.

Saturday's games were played under temperatures in the upper 30's and low 40's, with a brisk north wind and occassional snow showers.

Escanaba improved to 25-2-1 on the season, and will face the only other team to beat them this season, the Marquette Redettes, on Monday.
