Gladstone Boys Sweep Hancock On Prom Day

GLADSTONE---Saturday was Prom Day for Gladstone High School students, but the Braves baseball players took care of business before heading to the dance with two wins over the Hancock Bulldogs. Gladstone won, 10-2 and 19-0, against the team that it will face in the districts at the end of the month. The second game went just three innings.

"They had no pitching left at all for that second game," Gladstone Manager Don Lauscher said. "It was a good day for us, all in all."

The Braves will open the district tournament against Hancock on May 27th.  And so, the Memorial Day game scheduled against Escanaba on the night before is cancelled

Lauscher used as many of his guys as possible on Saturday, especially since the two seniors and two juniors needed to get to their Prom. This doubleheader started at 10:o0 in the morning, which meant the Hancock boys had to wake up at 5:00 a.m. to make the trip.

"We started slow, again," Lauscher said. "But we played some good ball. Ben (Schwalbach) is still hitting the ball well. (Hunter) Garling's bat is going good. And I was happy with Lucas Weinert. He hit the ball well again."

Gladstone (17-7) travels to Green Bay Preble for a make-up game on Monday. Then the Braves will be on the road again on Wednesday for a doubleheader in Negaunee. That twinbill will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
