Esky Looking For Wrestling, Girls Hoops Coaches

ESCANABA--The Escanaba High School athletic program will see some coaching changes next winter.

There will be new varsity wrestling and girls basketball head coaches after Jamie Segorski resigned in wrestling and Dena Fedell was let go as the girls coach.

Fedell was asked to resign, but refused to do so.

Escanaba Athletic Director Nick Nolde says he asked for her resignation so that the basketball program could "go in another direction".

Fedell was the head coach for the past two years and coached as an assistant for nine years before that. Nolde said: "Dena Fedell is no longer our girls varsity coach. We have posted that job, and we are seeking applicants right now."

Segorski is stepping down as the wrestling coach to focus more on his job as an Escanaba Public Safety captain, and as the head coach of the softball team.

"That's gonna be a big loss for the Escanaba wrestling program," Nolde said. "The good news is that Jamie is gonna stay involved, somewhat, in the youth wrestling program. We have that job posted right now. I'm sure we've got some quality applicants."

Escanaba assistant wrestling coach Jeff Wright has applied for the position.

"We'll see what happens there," Nolde said. "We'll do the interview process."
