U.P.'s Ives Helps Chase Elliott Win Nationwide Title

Chase Elliott clinched the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship on Saturday with his fifth place finish at Phoenix International Raceway.

Elliott becomes the first rookie to win a NASCAR Championship, and it also makes him the youngest NASCAR champion at the age of 18.

Elliott's crew chief is Bark River native Greg Ives. Ives will be moving to the NASCAR Sprint Cup series in 2015, where he will be the crew  chief for Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

According to NASCAR.com, Elliott was unsure on how to celebrate after crossing the finish line. When it came to doing a post-race burnout, he paused.

"Do I go burn 'em down right now?" Elliott said. "Is that acceptable?"

Spotter Earl Barban passed the buck over the radio: "You'll have to ask your crew chief."

The affirmative reply came from Ives, "Do what you need to do."

And, so he did!
