KIMBERLY, Wis.----The Gladstone Indians fell behind early and couldn't put together much of an offensive threat on Friday, losing to Neenah (Wis.), 7-3, in their second game at the KBO Varsity Invitational at Kimberly's Sunset Park.
Neenah scored three runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Matt Weyers, then put the game away with three more runs in the sixth inning. Justin Jurek and Lucas LaCosse also pitched in relief for the Indians, who fell to 0-2 in the event and 23-7 overall.
Gladstone's highlight was a two-run homer off the bat of Hayden Hardwick in the top of the seventh inning. But the Indians were behind, 7-0, at the time.
Jake Pearson and Jurek also got doubles in the seventh inning to cut the gap to 7-3, but Gladstone couldn't score again as Luke LaCosse popped up to end the seventh inning, and the game.
Gladstone will finish tournament play on Saturday against Hortonville, Wis. Game time is 11:00 ET at Kimberly's Sunset Park. Check this page for a recap late Saturday night.
