MENOMINEE---Escanaba senior golfer Kevin Gendron burned up the Menominee North Shore golf course on Monday, carding a 74 to lead the Escanaba Eskymos to a third place finish at the Menominee Invitational.
The Northern Michigan University recruit easily won medalist honors, beating the rest of the field by at least five strokes. Marquette's Alex Palmer and Brett Heikkila, and Marinette's Mitch Francious, were the closest golfers to Gendron, shooting 79's.
But Marinette used its depth to win the six-team invitational with 325 strokes. Marquette took second (328), and the Eskymos shot a 331, six shots behind Marinette.
Menominee was fourth (336), while the Gladstone Braves finished fifth with 347 strokes. The Braves were led by Drew Scheeneman's 82. Full results for both Escanaba and Gladstone boys teams from Monday's match are posted below.
In Monday's girls meet, the Gladstone Braves won the tournament by a wide margin, with a total of 387 strokes. Escanaba was second (425), with Menominee third (444), and Marquette fourth (470). Gladstone's Callie Jensen shot a 92 to win medalist honors, while teammate Paige Tardiff shot a 94. Escanaba's Kelsey Motto shot a 93.
Both the Eskymos and Braves will compete in the Negaunee Invitational on Tuesday.
