Roller Coaster Continues: Bucs Cut Daniels Again
TAMPA, Fla.---Escanaba High School and Northern Michigan University graduate Jace Daniels was cut from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Practice Squad on Tuesday, just two days after being one of seven men to be assigned to that squad. "I was cut because of injuries at other positions," Daniels said Tuesday night. "The coaches told me that they want me back soon, and to be ready." Tampa Bay has had some injury problems at the receiver position, so the team signed an extra receiver (Skye Dawson) to the practice squad, bumping Daniels from the team. It's been a wild several days for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive lineman. He was placed on the league's waiver list Saturday as Tampa Bay trimmed its final regular season roster from 75 men to 53. After no other NFL team picked him up within 24 hours, Daniels was signed on Sunday to the Buccaneers' practice squad. Daniels isn't letting Tuesday's setback get him down, saying that he will keep working just as hard to get better...and to be ready in case the Bucs call him again. "If nothing happens," he said, "I was so blessed to have that opportunity of a lifetime." Daniels saw action in all four of Tampa Bay's preseason games in August. He was a four-year letter-winner at Northern Michigan, starting all 42 games in which he played, and earning first-team GLIAC all-conference honors as a senior in 2012. Before that, he was a dominating force on the Escanaba Eskymo offensive line. |
