Esky Runners Dominate Meet; Girls Finish Second
MUNISING---It was a dominating performance for the Escanaba High School boys cross country team as the Eskymos opened the 2013 season at the Munising Invitational at the Valley Spur Course. The Eskymos easily won the championship of the 12-team event, getting four of the top nine finishers.
Escanaba's Eric Cousineau won the race in 17 minutes, 25 seconds. That was a full three seconds clear of second place Davey Lupow of Menominee. Gabe Ostrenga (fifth), Jordan Ogren (seventh) and Tyler Hardwick (ninth) also scored points for Escanaba.
On the team score, Escanaba led with 35 points. Menominee was second with 92.
In the girls meet, Menominee edged Escanaba for first place, 39-49. The Maroons' Kameron Burmeister won in 20 minutes, 17 seconds. Escanaba's Amy Giese was second, almost 80 seconds behind. Manistique's Molly Blowers was third.
