ESCANABA---
The Escanaba High School baseball team picked up two wins on Saturday as the Eskymos hosted a triangular with Negaunee and Rudyard. After an hour delay because of overnight rains, the field was ready to go, and so was Lenny Peacock on the hill for the Eskymos.

Peacock struck out 15 batters in a complete game victory over the Negaunee Miners, 9-1. He allowed four hits, walked two, and yielded one run after the Eskymos built a 4-0 lead early in the game.

Peacock then helped his own cause with a long two-run homer over the left field fence to make it a 6-1 game.

Bryce Bichler and Nolan Bink both collected two base hits for the Eskymos, and Ashton Rymkos walked four times and scored three runs. The Eskymos had nine hits, and and four of them were for extra bases.

Negaunee (24-6) used three pitchers, with starter Owen Cardinal taking the loss. Ian Engstrom’s RBI grounder brought in their only run.

The Miners won the second game over the Rudyard Bulldogs, 9-1, with Evan DellAngelo hitting a home run and bringing home five runs. Tristan Slater earned the win by pitching 5 2/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball. Aiden Steele got the final four outs for Negaunee.

The final game of the day saw the Eskymos face Rudyard. It was a sloppy game, with the Bulldogs making nine errors and the Eskymos making three errors. And those three errors came in one inning, the top of the fourth, when Rudyard was able to erase a 3-0 deficit and tie it at 3-3.

Escanaba immediately regained the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bryce Bichler’s sharply-hit base hit up the middle brought in two runs to make it 5-3, Nolan Bink doubled in a run to make it 6-3, and a fourth run came home on a wild pitch.

The Eskymos scored four more runs in the fifth inning as the Rudyard defense continued to spring a leak. And walks didn’t help the Bulldogs’ cause that inning, either. One fun moment for Escanaba was Gavin Wagner, normally used as a courtesy runner, got a chance to bat and smoked a triple to the center field fence.

Rudyard (14-16) used three pitchers, and they combined to allow only four earned runs among the 13 runs scored. Lukas VanSloten took the loss in relief of starter Jaxon Clark. Bryce Mitchell finished up and was on the mound when the Eskymos clinched the game on the mercy rule.

Escanaba (18-10) also used three pitchers, with Cannon Arnt throwing two scoreless innings to start, Brody Ison allowing two runs in his inning of work, and Bichler earning the win by tossing the final three innings.

Bichler allowed two hits, walked three batters, and the walk against him was unearned. Offe.nsively, Bichler had two more hits at the plate, giving him four hits in the two games on Saturday.

The Eskymos will continue to play at home to close out the regular season. They will face Superior Central on Monday, Gladstone on Tuesday, and Norway under the lights on Thursday.
