Escanaba Eskymo graduate Bon LaChance took advantage by hitting a home run on his home field in the nightcap, and the Norse sophomore players were honored as they played their final games in Escanaba on Sophomore Night.
In the opener, Bay fell behind, 3-0, as sophomore T.J. Rijpstra did his best to keep the Norse in the game. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out six batters and walking only one.
And the Norse closed to within 3-2 with a late rally, with sophomore Logan Peterson doubling in one run and fellow sophomore Austin Samanske singling in another.
But the Stars pulled away in the top of the seventh inning as Chyran Humphries doubled home two runs to seal the Lansing victory.
In the second game, Lansing jumped to a 7-0 lead in the second inning. The Norse got their highlight when LaChance, playing on the field where he played for the Eskymos, launched a solo home run to center field to close the scoring.
Christian Douglas threw a complete game for the Stars, scattering five hits and walking only one. Three different pitchers threw for the Norse: Kaleb Schroeder, Isaac Sarles, and Semanske.
Lansing, the MCCAA West Division leaders (32-10 overall, 17-4 MCCAA), will play two more games in Alpena on Tuesday to wrap up a four-game road trip.
Bay College (16-17 overall, 12-9 MCCAA) will close the season next Saturday and Sunday with four make-up games in Mt. Pleasant against the Mid Michigan Lakers. The Lakers are 14-7 in conference play (23-14 overall), and the Norse will need to win three of the four games next weekend to make the playoffs.
The Norse games in Mt. Pleasant will all be broadcast live on FM-93.5 and AM-600 in Escanaba, AM-1450 in Iron Mountain, and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
