“It's a broken record,” Kangas said. “Turnovers. If we can't take care of the ball, we won't be successful, or even close to being successful. I told the guys at the end of the game that we know 'what” it is, so we can at least go and work on it. Every time we've taken care of the ball, we've either won the game, or was in it in the fourth quarter.” The Emeralds fell to 3-13 on the season with the loss. Gladstone led just 10-8 late in the first quarter before going on a nine-point run to end the first quarter. The run reached 13 points before Mack Pugh knocked down a triple to stop the bleeding for Manistique at 23-11. It was 29-16 midway through the second quarter before the Braves went on another 11-0 run, capped by a buzzer-beating triple by Lonnie Davey to put Gladstone up, 40-18, at halftime. Davey had 14 of those 40 first half points for the Braves. In the third quarter, the Braves came out firing, making five triples, three of them by Owen Gereau. Eventually, the mercy rule took effect when the lead crossed 40 points. Davey was happy with the team win. ”It was just a great morale boost for our entire team,” Davey said. “I mean everyone scored. Everyone played well. 72 points is good for anyone, so, I mean this is just a great way to go into Marquette and Kingsford, which will defintely be harder. We just have to try our hardest and play together.” The Braves will play in Marquette Tuesday night, and in Kingsford on Thursday. Manistique will host the Brimley on Wednesday and Westwood on Thursday. Both Emeralds games will be broadcast live on WTIQ-FM 98.5 and AM-1490. |
