HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: Eskymos outlast Alpena In Shootout, 3-2

It was a heavyweight battle on the ice Saturday night as the Escanaba Eskymos and Alpena Wildcats met at the Northern Lights Arena in Alpena. Escanaba took a 2-0 lead in the third period, gave up two quick goals, fell behind in the shootout, but emerged with a 3-2 victory that included goals by Ben Sands and Nick Martinson in the shootout. And on Saturday in Minnesota, the Bay College Norse and Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights proved that in a wild back-and-forth game. NMU Adds Two Hockey Players To Current Roster

Northern Michigan University Hockey is adding goaltender Max Weilandt and defenseman Olivier Beaulieu to its active roster ahead of the series at Lake Superior State on Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4, 2026. Weilandt is a 6-foot, 189-pound goaltender from Northbrook, Illinois, who is joining the Wildcats from the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. Beaulieu is a 5-foot-11-inch, 168-pound, left-shot defenseman from Terrebonne, Quebec. The blueliner became a permanent fixture in the BCHL.

NNU Women's Wrestling Hosting Seven-Team Duals Friday

Friday, December 19, marks an exciting and historic day for Northern Michigan wrestling, as the Wildcats will be hosting the Northern Duals at Vandament Arena starting at 9:30 a.m., with seven total teams in attendance. The competition will be featured on two mats simultaneously, spanning six rounds into the late afternoon. It will feature five women's teams: No. 12 Northern Michigan, Alma, Carthage College, Siena Heights, and No. 16 Tiffin. In addition, the third round will include NMU's Greco-Roman wrestling program competing against Doane University.
