GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Indians American Legion baseball team made quick work of the Niagara Legion team Tuesday night, rolling to a 14-1 win at Don Olsen Field. Tyler Darmogray led the way with three hits, while Cooper Sanville and Austin Pepin both drove in three runs. Gladstone scored four runs in each of the first three innings, and added two more runs in the fourth inning. Both teams will compete in the Gregg Johnson Memorial Tournament this weekend, in fact, they will play each other Friday night in Gladstone. Trent Rutter, a Superior Central High School graduate playing for the Indians for the first time, earned the win on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing one run on two hits while throwing 51 pitches. He struck out four and walked two. Cooper Curtis, a Manistique student who last year played Legion ball with the Escanaba Cubs, finished up for Gladstone, throwing 2 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on one hit. Niagara scored its only run in the third inning when Blake Holmes scored on a groundout. Mason Richtig took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings. |
