Three UP Wrestlers Go For State Titles; Others Alive

Gladstone's 126-pounder Drew Hansen, Iron Mountain 165-pounder Fulton Stroud, and Kingsford 215-pounder Eli Rouse will all look to top the podium. Rouse is a defending state champion in Division Two, and Stroud will try to follow his older brother's footsteps after Parker Stroud won a state championship two years ago. Besides those three wrestlers, there will be others from across the Upper Peninsula battling for a spot on the podium in consolation rounds. The top six in each weight class earn spots on the podium and return home with a medal.
Hansen, in Division Three, pinned Colton Kennedy of Hopkins High School in 3:57, and then won his quarterfinal match over Chris Campbell of Algonac, 6-0. In the semifinals, Hansen won a 2-0 decision over Wyatt Burns of Dundee. Hansen is 49-1 on the season.
Stroud, in Division Four, was in cruise control in his three victories. He opened with a 10-2 major decision win over Aidan Fisher of Eau Claire, and then beat Easten Cook of Muskegon Catholic Central, 10-3, in the quarterfinals. Stroud then destroyed Jack Kulhanek of New Lothrop on a 12-1 major decision in the semifinals.
Rouse, in Division Three, had some tough competition, but he pulled through. He defeated Dallas Smith of Napoleon on a 5-3 decision, then got by Ethan Hammond of Lakeville in the quarterfinals, 3-2. Rouse topped Joel Simon of Lakewood High School in the semifinals on a 4-1 decision. Rouse crossed the 100-win plateau for his Flivver career.
Bark River-Harris 190-pounder Lucas Sischo won his first two matches but then lost to C.J. Copeland, 7-1, and will wrestle for third place on Saturday. And in the girls 115-pound bracket, Maddy Corrigan of North Central High School won her first two matches before losing to Gracey Barry of Grand Haven, 10-0. She will wrestle in the third place match om Saturday.
