Houghton's Camden Markham Named Mr. Hockey
![]() DETROIT---The Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association Sunday night announced its Dream Team for the 2022-23 hockey season, as well as the Mr. Hockey award for the state's best player. And Houghton Gremlins captain Cam Markham was given that honor. Marlham led the Gremlins to a near-perfect regulat season, with losses only to Detroit Catholic Central and Marquette. The Gremlins lost a heartbreaker in the state semifinals to East Grand Rapids, 2-1, in overtime, giving up the tying goal in the final seconds. Markham piled up multiple hat tricks this season, finishing with 38 goals and 45 assists for 83 points in just 29 games. The Mr. Hockey award goes to the state's top player, regardless of which division he plays in. Markham's father, Corey, the longtime head coach of the Gremlins, was named the state Division Three Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 26-3 overall record. His Houghton teammate Gaborik Carlson was also named to that team. The junior team headed to Minnesota will include Houghton's Mikey Maillette and Marquette's Nash Riipi. |
