Carney-Nadeau Wolves Bitten Again At Home 70-67

CARNEY---
It was not too long ago that the Carney-Nadeau High School basketball team was riding high. The Wolves had won 21 straight games on their home court, including a victory over the rival North Central Jets just before the Christmas break.

Carney's Wade Schetter (3) battles inside against Forest Park's Chris Hilberg (33).
But the 2013 portion of the season has not been too kind, not even on the vaunted Green and Gold court in Carney.

The Wolves were bitten by the Munising Mustangs earlier this month to break the streak, and then, Friday night, it happened again.

Carney-Nadeau lost to Crystal Falls Forest Park, 70-67. And it was a game that the Wolves seemed to have control of, but things turned sour in a big way in the second half.

Carney led, 20-14, after one quarter of play...and the lead grew to as big as 34-23 in the second quarter before the Trojans closed to within 34-28 at the halftime break.

The Wolves led, 36-28, and 40-35 in the third quarter. But the Trojans went on a scoring spree at the same time the Wolves went cold.

The result was high-fiving and grinning Trojan players as Austin Snell scored from outside and Lee Graff contributed inside. Crystal Falls took a 52-40 lead late in the third quarter after a Snell jumper completed a remarkable 17-0 Trojan run.

Carney-Nadeau battled back in the fourth quarter, with Keenan Lampinen and Wade Schetter leading the way.

They both nailed three-pointers during the rally, and Schetter had two blocked shots and two steals on the defensive side of the ball.

The Wolves closed to within two points twice (at 56-54 and 59-57) in the final four minutes, but they had used so much energy to get back into the game that they just could not make that final push to regain the lead down the stretch.

Crystal Falls had four players score in double figures. Graff led the way with 20 points, and Snell added 18. Chris Hilberg scored 13 points and Derek Aberly added 12.

Carney-Nadeau got 25 points from Lampinen, and 22 from Schetter. Jason DuPont added 12 points on four three-point baskets for the Wolves (8-2).
