Big First Half Propels Mountaineers To 55-37 Win
![]() Click the thumbnails to see photos and video highlights GLADSTONE---The Iron Mountain High School boys basketball team raced to a 36-9 halftime lead and coasted to a 55-37 win over the Gladstone Braves Tuesday night in Gladstone. ![]() And they managed just six points in the second quarter against a tough Iron Mountain defense that pressed up and down the court. The Mountaineers, meanwhile, quickly built their lead as sophomore Oskar Kangas went off for 15 first half points, including a slam dunk off a loose ball and a three-point basket. Trailing 36-9 at the half, Braves Coach Colin Immel switched to a 1-2-2 zone defense, and it seemed to work. Gladstone outscored Iron Mountain, 18-6, in the third quarter, to close to within 15 points heading to the final eight minutes. But they could get no closer. Kangas ended up with 17 points for the Mountaineers (5-0). Reece Kangas added 13 points, and Gerald Sampoll Torres had the game-high 19 points. Gladstone (2-4) was led by Kaden Gibbs' 12 points, all of which came in the third quarter. Iron Mountain also won the junior varsity game, 38-32. ![]() |
