Nine Upper Peninsula high school football teams survived the first weekend of the playoffs, and will play some November games next weekend. The Northern Michigan University football team took on the nation's top team in the Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, falling 70-35, in Big Rapids. The Wildcats scored first and outgained Ferris 116-88 after 15 minutes, where they were tied 14-14. But the Bulldogs turned it up another gear out of halftime to put the game away. Michigan Tech's hockey team shut out St. Lawrence University 3-0 on Saturday at Appleton Arena in New York, rebiounding from Friday night's loss fo Clarkson. The Michigan Tech football team outscored Roosevelt 35-7 in the second half to earn a 56-31 victory at Kearly Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Eskymos finished with an 8-1 record, with only a 34-30 loss to Gaylord as a blemish, and they'll move on to the MHSAA playoffs with a game next Saturday afternoon in Escanaba against a still-to-be-determined team. The NMU hockey team dropped game one of the weekend series against the best team in the country, losing 4-0 to the Michigan State Spartans, Friday night in Marquette. The Wildcats (0-7-0, 0-0-0 CCHA) had its chances to score, including six power play attempts and a shot off the post, but were unsuccessful in its man-advantage opportunities, marking the first time the 'Cats have been shut out this season.

The Forest Park Trojans volleyball team took on the best the Upper Peninsula had to offer, on Saturday, and stayed undfeated against U.P. teams by beating the Kingsford Flivvers, Marquette Sentinels, and Calumet Copper Kings in the “Clash of the Divisions” tournament hosted by Kingsford High School.
The Michigan Tech football team turned the ball over five times in the first half as No. 1 Ferris State winning its 21st consecutive game, in a 38-10 decision at Kearly Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ferris State saw their three-game shutout streak come to an end as Michigan Tech produced a 32-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Avery Kucharski, and Tech quarterback Elliott Larner recorded his second career touchdown.
The Northern Michigan volleyball team ended the Midwest Region Crossover in dominant fashion, earning a sweep over the Ashland Eagles 25-19, 25-21, and 25-13, with the match only lasting just over an hour in total time.
