PERKINS---The Superior Central Cougars opened the MHSAA Division Four District Tournament Monday night with a 3-0 win over Big Bay deNoc at Mid Pen High School. The scores were 25-14, 25-15, 27-25. The third set was by far the best set, going back and forth all the way, with neither team leading by more than three points. "We kind of got out of sorts in that third set," Superior Central Coach Kris Bray said. "We got uptight and didn't play with the aggressiveness that we usually do. But when we were playing up to our potential, we were playing really well. We were hitting really well and our serving was good tonight." "That third set, I don't know, it finally clicked, I guess," Big Bay Coach Angie Carley said. "It was like they were like, hey, it doesn't matter, we can do this. They kind of had a little more confidence in themselves in that last one. They started swinging more, and communicating more. It's just a bummer we couldn't have done that earlier." Superior Central will face rival Munising in the district semifinals Wednesday night at 7:45 at Mid Pen. The host Wolverines take on Rapid River in the first semifinal at 6:00. "I feel good about Wednesday," Bray said. "We've seen Munising before. It will be a good match. They're a decent team. Five sets at our place the first time we played, and we beat them in three sets the last time. So, they're out for blood. They're gonna want to stop us, so we'll have to be on our 'A' Game." |
