Negaunee, NCA Remain Tops In U.P. Football Polls

MARQUETTE---The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association is out with its weekly football poll Tuesday morning.

The Negaunee Miners are a unanimous Number One after a 24-6 win over Gladstone last Friday night. Gladstone is still ranked Number Two. Both coaches know that the teams could be on a collision course to meet again at some point in the state playoffs.

Iron Mountain is ranked third, Kingsford fourth, and Saint Ignace fifth.

In the Eight Man poll, two-time defending state champion North Central remains a unanimous Number One, with Munising a solid second.

NCA has mercied every team that it has played this season, and in six games, has allowed only one field goal and one touchdown. The Jets are also ranked Number One in the Michigan Associated Press statewide poll.

Munising is coming off a 92-0 win over Brimley and remains unbeaten.

Norway, coming off its first loss of the season at Florence, is ranked third. Forest Park is ranked fourth and Newberry is fifth.
