GLADSTONE---
The Menominee Maroons girls basketball team scored 14 straight points in the second quarter to break open a close game, and the Maroons cruised to a 50-29 win over the Gladstone Braves Tuesday night in Gladstone.

The Maroons allowed only two points in the entire second quarter after the game was up for grabs for the first quarter. Gladstone got triples from Chloe Hanson, Claire Vanginhoven, and Jamisyn Bergeron to take an 11-10 lead late in the first quarter before Nerat drained a triple on a nicely-designed out-of-bounds play to beat the first quarter buzzer.

That gave Menominee a 13-11 lead, and after the Braves tied it back up, the offense dried up.

The Maroons scored the next 14 points to go up, 27-13, before Gladstone got a late basket to close to within 27-15 at halftime. The Maroons pulled way in the second half to improve to 8-5 on the season. Gladstone fell to 3-7.

Kennedy Olson led Menominee with 17 points. She scored eight of them in a dominating first quarter inside the paint. Anna Nerat added 14 points for the Maroons.

Vanginhoven led the Braves with 11 points.

Gladstone visits Manistique Thursday night. The game will be broadcast on FM-93.5/AM-600 in Delta County, and on FM-98.5/AM-1490 in Schoolcraft County.
