North Central Dominates In Homecoming Victory

POWERS---It was a happy Homecoming for the North Central High School football team Saturday as the Jets rolled to a 86-0 win over a young North Dickinson Nordics team.

It was the second straight lopsided win for the Jets, who beat Ontonagon in the season-opener a week ago, 84-6.

The Jets' top offensive weapoms, led by quarternback Luke Gorzinski, played limited snaps after the first quarter and a half.

Coach Leo Gorzinski used his junior varsity players along with varsity players throughout the second half, but the JV players are only allowed to play one quarter by MHSAA rule because the boys had already played their JV game on Friday.

NCA led 48-0 after the first quarter, 64-0 at the half, and 72-0 after three quarters.

Three of the Jets' touchdowns came on pick-six interceptions: by Luke Kleiman in the first quarter, Ian Gorzinski in the second quarter, and Dylan Plunger in the fourth quarter.

The Jets actually struggled for consistency on their first offensive drive until Luke Gorzinski found his cousin Ian for a 48-yard pass inside the ten yard-line. A dump-off pass to Alex Naser scored the first touchdown of the game.

On the next series, the two Gorzinskis hooked up again for a six-yard touchdwown pass after Naser turned in an electrifying 52-yard run after a short pass. Naser broke numerous tackles, and at one point, a Nordic defender stretched out Naser's jersey before he was eventually tackled at the six yard-line.

Kleiman then jumped a route and took a pass to the house for an interception that made it 24-0, after the Jets made their third straight two-point conversion.

Later, after the Nordics went four-and-out, Luke Gorzinski found senior Carter Eichmeier for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

The NCA defense again held ND without a first down, and Luke Gorzinski ran in another touchdown from 14 yards out to close the first quarter scoring.

In the second quarter, Naser's 24-yard run and Ian Gorzinski's pick-six both put six points on the board, then back-up Wyatt Riley broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run from back-up quarterback Brett LaBonte.

The Jets made all eight of their first half two-point conversions, with Luke Gorzinski passing to Fabian Chartier and Kleiman for two of them; Ian Gorzinski and LaBonte both ran in two conversions, and Naser ran one in. That combined to make it 64-0 at halftime.

The second half saw a continious running clock, which had actually started midway through the second quarter. Some more younger NCA guys hit the scoreboard as Dylan Plunger ran in a 23-yard touchdown, and he had an interception return for a "pick six" of 44 yards.

The other NCA touchdown was a 17-yard run by Drew Allgeyer, who is best known for being one of the top Division Four wrestlers in the state on the Bark River-Harris/NCA co-op team.

The Jets had 314 yards of total offense while the Nordics had 16 yards. North Dickinson had the ball for 28 minutes, 25 seconds, to the Jets' 19:35.

Luke Gorzinski completed 9 of 12 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Nordic quarterback Maximus Mattson threw up 27 passes, completing six, for 27 yards. He was intercepted five times as the NCA defense constantly put pressure on him.

The Homecoming King and Queen were Fabian Chartier and Jaiden Fleetwood.
