Eskymos Battle Hard But Fall To Kingsford In Four
 ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos were competitive throughout their match with the Kingsford Flivvers Tuesday night, but the Flivvers pulled out a 3-1 Great Northern Conference win. The scores were 25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-11.  The big crowd, led by a loud student section, was on its feet as the girls were moving the ball around well. Their serving was "on" as well. After a Flivver timeout, the two teams exchanged points after several long rallies, but Escanaba still had an 18-8 lead. The Flivvers made a run of seven straight points, closing to within 20-16, prompting Eskymo Coach Bron Harmon to call a time out. Escanaba got to within one point of winning the game at 24-20, and several more long rallies ensued. Kingsford won six straight, however, including two close calls along the sidelines. The 26-24 win gave the Flivvers a 2-0 lead in the match, but the Eskymos did not give up, winning the third game, 25-23, to stay alive in the match.  Escanaba (5-16-2) hosts the annual Elks Invitational this Saturday. There are ten teams in the daylong event. Pool play matches start at 9:00 a.m. The top two teams in each of the four-team pools advance to the semifinals, which then play for the championship. The ten teams are: Escanaba, Gladstone, Menominee, Marquette, Ishpeming, Manistique, Sault Ste. Marie, Negaunee, Rudyard, and Westwood.
