SMART ESKYMOS: Esky Wrestlers Excel In Classes
![]() The Michigan Wrestling Association is praising the work of the best high school wrestling teams and individuals...off the mat. The Escanaba Eskymos were honored for having the ninth-best team grade point average in the state in Division Two. The Westwood Patriots and five individuals were also honored. Coach Jeff Wright's Eskymos earned Academic All-State honores after posting an overall team grad point average of 3.64 on a 4.0 scale, which was tied for ninth in D-2 with the Gaylord Blue Devils. In Division Four, Westwood had a team GPA of 3.23, which was good for eighth amongst the state's small schools. Indivdually, five Upper Peninsula grapplers were recognized as Academic All-Staters for their work in the classroom: Marquette's Joe Lagrou and Blake Colley; Leo Helppi of Negaunee, Caleb Brown of St. Ignace, and Rocco Carlson of Westwood. |
