Escanaba Holds Off Bark River-Harris Rally, 57-49

ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School girls basketball team built a 19-point lead and held on to beat Bark River-Harris, 57-49, Friday night.

Nicole Kamin led all scorers with 27 points as the Eskymos took a 50-31 lead entering the fourth quarter. But the Broncos didn't give up, finding their long-range shooting to close to within five points in the final minute. A Mari Bink basket and foul put it away for Escanaba.

The first quarter was up-and-down and high-scoring, with Escanaba leading, 25-18. Both teams tightened the defense in the second quarter, especially the Eskymos, who allowed only six points in the quarter and lead at halftime, 37-24.

Sierra Debelak scored 17 points to lead Bark River-Harris.

With the win, Escanaba improved to 8-5 on the season and is off until a Feb. 6 roadtrip to Houghton. Bark River-Harris fell to 5-6 and will host Rapid River on Monday.
