Eskymos, Braves Scrimmage Ahead Of Regionals

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos and Gladstone Braves met on the baseball field Wednesday night in Escanaba, but it was not the usual intense battle of rivals. The teams held a scrimmage, as both get ready to play in regional tournaments Saturday.

There was no score kept, and although there were umpires for the game, it did not count in the standings. The scrimmage gave both coaches a chance to work on a few things, in a game situation. Several pitchers threw for each team during the seven innings.

Escanaba will face the Fremont Packers in a Division Two regional semifinal at Noon Saturday in downstate Gladwin. The game will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.

Meanwhile, Gladstone will take on the Kalkaska Blazers in a Division Three regional final in Charlevoix, also at noon on Saturday. The game can be heard on WUPF-FM (107.3). An Internet stream is also being set up...we will let you know when it is!
