Rockets Win First Track Championship Since 2003
![]() KINGSFORD---The Rapid River High School boys track team won just one event on Saturday at the MHSAA Division Three Track and Field Championships at Kingsford High School. But the Rockets still won their first team title since the Spring of 2003. Logan Hardwick won the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 2 inches. And nobody else took first in any field event, or any running event. ![]() Rapid River won the title out of a field of 13 teams with 72 points. North Central finished second with 68 points. Newberry was a distant third with 48 points. North Dickinson finished fourth (47.5 points), Munising was fifth (46 points) and Bessemer finished sixth (30 points). Rapid River had a key second place finish in the 3200 relay, ending up just behind Bessemer in that event, while North Central's team was fifth. The Rocket team of Connor Bryant, Dan Blair, Luke Gustafson, and Jared Anderson finished in 8:46.21. The Rockets' Mason Berglund had third place finishes in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, behind North Dickinson's Garrett O'Neil, who won both events. Blair, a senior distance runner for the Rockets, captured valuable points for the Rockets by finishing second in both the 800 and 1600 runs. ![]() North Central won the 800 relay and the 1600 relay races, and NCA's Brenden Gatien won the shot put (46'11.50) and Morgan Cox won the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches). In the 400 meter run, Big Bay deNoc sophomore Lucas Sundling was the winner, finishing in 52.07 seconds. NCA senior Bryce Holle finished second (53.80). Bark River-Harris sprinter Iver Stenberg took the 200-meter dash in 23.23 seconds, with Superior Central's Greg Seppanen second. Seppanen won the 100 in 11:40, with Stenberg finishing second in 11:52. North Dickinson's Noah Berg won the long jump. CLICK HERE to see all of the Division Three boys UP Finals results. DIVISION THREE GIRLS RESULTS---Delta County's girls teams were way back in the pack in the 19-team event. Mid Peninsula finished 10th, Bark River-Harris 11th, and Rapid River was 13th. Ontonagon won with 72 points. Newberry was second with 65. The top local finisher for the girls was Mid Peninsula's Camryn Croasdell, who won the 200-meter dash in 27.96 seconds. Rapid River's Jenna Rubick was fifth in the 800 run, finishing in 2:31.78. BR-H's Jaelin Lockwood finished second in the long jump (14'10"), and Bronco teammate Alissa Willa was third in the high jump (4'8").
