GLADSTONE----Hunter Eichhorn scorched carded a 75 on Thursday to lead the Carney-Nadeau Wolves to the MHSAA Division Three U.P. golf championship Thursday at Irish Oaks. It was the Wolves' second straight U.P. title, and Eichhorn's third straight.
Carney-Nadeau won with 344 strokes, 14 better than second-place Cedarville's 358.
Besides Eichhorn's medalist effort at 75, Mason Linder also made the top ten, tying for eighth place with an 87. Cameron Kuntze shot an 89, while Kage Linder hit a 93.
Cedarville's Avery Kreel was runner-up, finishing two strokes back of Eichhorn (77).
Chassell finished third in the team count with a 361, with Ontonagon taking fourth (362), Painesdale-Jeffers finishing fifth (374), and Forest Park in sixth (387).
North Central's Ben Snyder, who also plays on the Jets' varsity baseball team, tied Linder for eighth spot by shooting an 87. Mackinac Island senior Tyler Pereny gave his small school a top ten finish by shooting an 85, good for seventh place. Three of the five golfers on the trip for Mackinac Island are seventh grade students.
There were 18 teams entered in the D-3 boys golf finals, not counting Brimley and Rudyard, which each had one golfer and not enough, obviously, for a team score.
Bark River-Harris's Broc Stenberg and Dan Farnsworth both shot 99's. Big Bay deNoc's top golfer was Nathan Chandler with a 105, with Lucas Sundling one behind at 106. Mid Peninsula's top golfers were Kyle Klenow with a 105 and Mitch Barron with a 108.
For North Central, besides Snyder's 87, Justin Linder broke 100 by carding a 96.
