Munising Tops Rapid River For Skyline Track Title

FELCH---The Rapid River High School boys track team won the regional championship last week, but at the Skyline/Centrak Conference Championships Friday afternoon at North Dickinson High School in Felch, the Munising Mustangs came out on top.

The Mustangs edged the Rockets by 15 points, 126-111, to take the conference title. North Dickinson finished third with 98 points and North Central was fourth with 97.

Munising's girls also came out on top...and by a wide margin...166-92 over the second place Rockets. Bark River-Harris was third with 83 points, North Dickinson was fourth with 69 points. Mid Peninsula's girls ended up fifth with 54 points.

BOYS HIGHLIGHTS---Munising distance runner Brett Hannah won three events. He took the 800 run in 2:03.47, and the 1600 run in 4:40.68.

Rapid River's Dan Blair was second in both the 800 and 1600. Hannah also won the 3200 run (10:57), with North Central's Connor Robinson second. The Mustangs also won the 400 and 800 relay races, with North Central second in both races.

In the boys 3200 relay, Rapid River's team of Conner Bryant, Blair, Luke Gustafson, and Jared Anderson won in a time of 8:55.26. North Central's team took second.

Bark River-Harris sprinter Iver Stenberg won the 100 dash in 11.70 seconds, and the 200 dash in 23.75 seconds. NCA's Bryce Holle won the 400 run in 51.64 seconds, with Big Bay deNoc's Lucas Sundling the runner-up in 53.23.

In the hurdles, Rapid River's Mason Berglund was the winner of the 300 in 42.36. NCA's Dylan Gagne was second in 42.41.

Berglund was second in the 110 hurdles, behind North Dickinson's Garrett O'Neil (16.94).

In the field events, Forest Park's Billy Ragio won the pole vault (13 feet-flat). Mid Peninsula's Terry Brower won the high jump in 5-feet-10 inches. North Dickinson's Noah Berg won the long jump (19-10.50), with Stenberg finishing second (18-09.50).

Rapid River's Logan Hardwick won the discus (131 feet, 1.25 inches), with Berg second. Hardwick was third in the shot put, with Berg second. The winner was North Central's Brendon Gatien, who took the event with a throw of 47 feet, flat.

GIRLS HIGHLIGHTS---Rapid River won the top two spots in the 100 hurdles, with Shannon Gould finishing first in 18.77 and Emily Thibault second in 18.86.

Munising's Frankie Mattson won the 300 hurdles (53.14), with Carney-Nadeau's Talisha McCullough finishing second.

Munising's Alyssa Weber won the 3200 run in 12:43.71. She also won the 1600 run in 5:46.40, with her Mustang teammate Marissa Immel second in 5:55.42. Both Weber and Immel were part of the Munising winning 3200 relay team, finishing in 10:08.57.

Munising's Michaela Peramaki won the 100 dash (13.72) and  Paramaki won the 800 meter run in 2:31.68. Rapid River's Jenna Rubick was second in the 800 (2:32.4).

Bark River-Harris's Morgan Vanlanen won the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 10 inches. Rapid River's Reinna Blair was second. Blair won the discus event, with Carney-Nadeau's Sarah Jackson second and Rapid River's Erica Rubick third.

Bark River-Harris's Alissa Willa won the high jump (4-feet-9 inches). Munising's Madeleine Paramaki won the long jump (14-feet, 7.5 inches). And Munising's Micheala Paramaki won the pole vault (10 feet-flat).
