NEGAUNEE---The Gladstone Braves extended their winning streak to six games Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep over the Negaunee Miners, 5-0 and 4-2, at Negaunee's IronTown Field. The Braves are now 13-10 on the season.
In the opener, A.J. Lundberg got the start on the mound. He pitched all six innings, allowing five hits and three walks, but getting the big outs when he needed them.
"It was a real good outing on A.J.'s part," Braves Manager Don Lauscher said. "He had good velocity on his fastball and his curveball was a little sharper than it was the other night."
Gladstone's Ben Schwalbach had two hits and two runs batted in during the first game.
In the nightcap, Noah Olsen got his first start on the mound, and Lauscher was impressed. Olsen shut out the Miners until the fifth inning, when he gave up one run. Owen Hanson came on to pitch the final inning. Olsen allowed two hits and struck out seven batters.
"I was pleasantly surprised with Noah," Lauscher said. "He pitched really well."
Gladstone heads downstate for three games this weekend. The first is against Traverse City St. Francis, Friday at 5:00. Then on Saturday, it's a tournament in Cadillac, with the first opponent being Beaverton High School. All three games will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (600), and on the Internet at www.rrnsports.com.
