ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School Baseball team swept both ends of a double header from the Alger County Athletics, 12-0 and 12-2, Wednesday at Al Ness Field.
The A's are made up of kids from Superior Central, Munising, and Mid Pen High Schools.
In the opener, the Eskymos got a good pitching performance from sophomore Johnny Schlenvogt, who pitched a complete game with ten strikeouts. Parker LaMarch led the hitting with two base hits, two walks, and three runs scored.
In the nightcap, freshman Craig Kamin got the ball, and he threw into the fourth inning before Parker LaMarch came on to pitch.
LaMarch got out of a bases-loaded jam by serving up a 1-2-3 double play ball.
Offensively, LaMarch's older brother, Hunter LaMarch, ripped a three-run homer to left-center field. Aaron Young added a three-run double, and Kamin came through with an RBI triple.
Escanaba Manager Kirk Schwalbach says he was happy to be able to get some work for many guys who don't normally see a lot of action.
The Alger County team has struggled to get into "spring shape", being able to practice and play outside of the gym for only the past week. The A's have 16 players, including some of the Munising High School wrestlers who had great seasons. They lost their home-opening doubleheader to Bark River-Harris, 5-0 and 14-8, on Tuesday in Eben.
With the two wins, Escanaba improved to 5-5 on the season. The Eskymos continue their homestand on Thursday with a single game against the Negaunee Miners. Game time is 5:00. The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and www.rrnsports.com.
