HOUGHTON---
The Northern Michigan volleyball team toppled Michigan Tech, 3-1, Tuesday night at the Michiagn Tech Gym, in front of 570 fans.

"Michigan Tech is a very hostile place to play," NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. "I'm very proud that our players overcame the stresses in the final sets."

After the Huskies won the first set, 25-18, the Wildcats rallied to win the next three by 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17 margins.

In the second set, the teams traded points throughout. Northern Michigan was able to pull away late by winning the last four points.

The third set was more of the same, as the teams were tied 10 times through the early goings. With the teams knotted at 17 apiece, the Wildcats won three-straight points to build a cushion and then never allowed the Huskies back within a single point.

In the fourth set, with the teams locked in a 15-15 tie, Northern Michigan went on a 10-2 run to secure the victory. During that run, Lisa Studnicka recorded back-to-back service aces and two kills.

A trio of Wildcats reached the double digits in kills in the match: Studnicka (14), Kayla Chosa (14) and Madison Whitehead (11)."Lisa, Kayla and Madison had very good offensive performances tonight," Yoder said.

Jami Hogeboom reached the 40-assist plateau, totaling 42, for the 11th time this season. She has hit that mark in seven of the past 10 games.

Defensively, the Wildcats were paced by Alex Berger, who posted a game-high 28 digs. Studnicka (16) and Autumn Monsma (12) also reached the double digits in digs.

Northern Michigan also stymied the Husky attack with 14 blocks.

"Berger's 28 kills show how much this match meant to our seniors," Yoder said.

Michigan Tech University's story on this match follows:

HOUGHTON---Lauren Emmert had 13 kills and hit .423 whileJacqueline Aird posted 2:osted 26 digs, but the Michigan Tech volleyball team was knocked off by longtime rival Northern Michigan, 3-1, at the SDC Gym.

The match marked the final regular season home outing for four Tech seniors, who were each honored in a post-match ceremony.

The Huskies finish their 2015 home schedule with a 5-4 record.

"We started well and I thought we executed until halfway through the second set," said head coach Matt Jennings. "We made some mistakes at key moments and that prevented us from getting and playing to our strengths.

"That being said, this program owes a lot to our four seniors and honoring them in front of our amazing fans, students and community is something special. I can't say enough about their accomplishments as a group."

The Huskies opened the match well and stormed to a 25-18 win in the first set. Noelle Eveland and Aubrey Ficek both notched five kills in the stanza and the Black and Gold hit .314 as a team to build a lead as big as 10 points midway through the frame.

Sets No. 2 and 3 went both back-and-forth affairs with neither team taking control until late in the sets. Northern Michigan managed to close out wins of 25-20 and 25-21, respectively, to capture a 2-1 overall edge.

The Wildcats clinched the victory with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
