Emeralds Stop Eskymos In Long Volleyball Match

ESCANABA---The Manistique Emeralds used strong play at the net and took advantage of Escanaba mistakes to beat the Escanaba Eskymos, 3-2, in a marathon volleyball match Wednesday night in Escanaba.
Manistique won the fifth set, 15-11, to take the match. Lexi Carlson was strong on the blocks for the Emeralds, which won the Mid Pen Conference championship for the first time in school history this fall. Jeny Brandt and Katie Ziebell were both effective for the Eskymos. Escanaba won a wild first game, 31-29. Manistique tied the match with a 25-21 win in the second game, and then took advantage of errors to beat the Eskymos, 25-19. The Eskymos, playing on Parent's Night, regrouped to win the fourth set, 25-15, forcing the deciding fifth game. Manistique won to keep momentum heading toward districts.
