Bilski's 36 Points Leads Jets Past Black Bears, 87-43
![]() POWERS---The North Central High School basketball team has many weapons. From big guys Caleb Martin and Jason Whitens, to the multi-dimentional Rob Granquist, you never quite know who will lead the Jets on any given night. ![]() NCA sophomore Dawson Bilski nailed a school record ten three-point baskets, and scored 36 points, as the Jets beat the Big Bay deNoc Black Bears, 87-43, in Powers. Bilski hit four of his three-pointers in the first quarter, when the Jets scored 39 points en route to a 39-11 lead. Bilski had another triple, plus a two-point basket, in the second quarter, as the Jets scored 20 more points and had a 59-26 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Bilski hit one more three, and then, he was feeling it early in the fourth quarter as he swished three straight triples from well behind the line. The last basket gave him his 36th point, and led to a roar from the crowd inside the NCA gym. Jets Coach Adam Mercier called a time out, and removed Bilski from the game with six minutes left on the clock. The sophomore got hugs and high-fives from his teammates as he went to the bench. Bilski wasn't the only man to light up the scoreboard for the undefeated Jets, who are ranked tops in the Upper Peninsula and in all of Michigan (along with Cedarville and Munising). Eight other players on the NCA roster also tallied during the contest. Jason Whitens scored 12 points, Ryan Whitens added 11, and Rob Granquist scored nine points from the point guard position. In the first quarter, the Jets missed their first field goal attempt, and then made 14 straight shots, from all corners of the court. Big Bay deNoc tried to keep up with the Jets, nailing eight three-point baskets along the way. Tyler Demars scored 18 points and James Casey chipped in 15 for the Bears.
